Q1: Should I mulch or bag my clippings?

A: Mulch in most cases. Mulching returns nutrients to the lawn, as well as organic matter. It also helps to retain water. Sometimes it may be helpful to bag if you have an annual weed infestation which is setting seeds, or if your grass has gotten extra long between mowings.

Q2: Will mulching contribute to thatch?

A: No. Thatch is caused by roots growing near the surface. Mulching helps to deter thatch by helping with the decomposition process.

Q3: When does your season run through?

A: Our season usually starts in mid to late April, and ends around October 31st. But we accept new customers at any point in the season.

Q4: How do I get rid of weeds?

A: Annual weeds that grow from seed can be prevented with the application of a pre-emergent herbicide (CGM for Organic) prior to seed germination. There is also a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent many perennial type broadleaf weeds. After the weeds appear, you can apply a post-emergent herbicide or pull the weeds by hand.

Q5: Which is better, spike or core aeration?

A: Core aeration is preferred because it removes small cores of dirt to ease compaction. Spike aeration can compress some types of soil and add to compaction issues. However, spike aeration is best for sandy type soils.

Q6: What services do you offer?

A: We offer a weekly mowing service, which includes Mowing, Trimming and Edging. We also offer Fertilization, Weed-kill in the grass or rock beds, Aeration, in the spring we offer a product called Revive, and in the fall we offer sprinkler-blow-outs.

Q7: Do I have to sign a contract? Or am I locked into a certain time frame?

A: No, we do not make our customers sign a contract. However out of fairness we do ask for a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks of service.

Q8: When is my mow day? Will it always be the same?

A: We strive for consistency; we have set mow days for different areas around town, so when you sign up for service you will be told which day of the week you will be mowed. We try to keep the day the same for the whole season, but we do reserve the right to change our scheduled mow days in order route our crews more efficiently and provide a better service.

Q9: What happens if it rains on my mow day?

A: If it is a very light rain, we may still work through it, if it is pouring rain, we will go into a rain delay, and you will more than likely be moved to the following days schedule. On occasion if the weather is bad enough a rain delay can put us 1 day behind for the whole week.
